I should’ve just bought the coffee

I should’ve just bought the coffee when I thought about it and had the chance! I was at Publix (our local supermarket) a couple nights ago and thought about buying coffee pods for our Keurig machine because we were running low. I decided against it figuring I would get a better buy and larger supply at Costco. — One of the first things I do every morning is sip on a nice cup of coffee.

Well this morning turned out to be a big mess! We ran out of the coffee pods and so I pulled out my old Stove Top Espresso Cuban Coffee Maker which I hadn’t used in a while. My second mistake was to use regular coffee grinds; the first cup was filled with the coffee grinds and was not drinkable. I had to throw that out. Luckily enough I had a pack of espresso coffee which was made especially for this machine and so I cleaned up the coffee maker and excitedly put on another pot to brew and went to do some reading and all of a sudden I hear a big explosion! Boom! I nearly jumped out of my chair. My heart was pounding!

Apparently I left the pot on the stove too long and the pressure had to be released somehow. This caused the explosion and the steam and coffee grinds to go all over the kitchen! The walls, floor, ceiling, counter top. Everywhere! It was a mess!

As I was cleaning it up quickly trying to avoid stains all over the place and before my wife came out to the kitchen, I was reminded of a significant lesson in life:

You’ll make mistakes and things may blow up and create a big mess. But you can clean it up, dust it off, learn from it and start all over again.

“Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.” – Denis Waitley

Failure is also something one must face bravely esp in business. Numbers don’t lie, at some point you have to admit it isn’t working and change course. You also have to think whether all the stress caused by certain aspects of your business or your life for that matter is worth whatever return you are getting.

  2. And don’t forget to pick the coffee up this week 🙂
